Match report – Priaulx league
Alderney Nomads 1 – 4 Vale Recreation

On the day football was postponed across the United Kingdom, Alderney and Vale Recreation found themselves in a unique situation, being able to fulfil their Priaulx fixture. Granted permission by the FA due to the circumstances involving the inter-island flights that have already been paid for by both clubs. The Nomads junior teams were also in action at Northfield, earlier in the day.

A new look home team, many changes from their last Priaulx home fixture, injuries and players being unavailable meant that Alderney veteran Steve Concanen returned to action again in a defensive three at the back. Making his home debut was new signing Florin Lungu playing as a supportive forward to Jack Williams.

The early exchanges of the game found the home side dominating with Walker down the left-hand side causing problems for the VR defense.

Alderney’s first goal attempt fell to Connor his shot flew over the bar following an excellent Walker cross, the home side continued to press and were winning corners frequently. Player coach J Concanen had a free header that forced a good save by the visiting keeper Simon, who was certainly the busiest for the first period of the half, Simon was forced into another good save this time a powerful shot from Walker. A rare VR counter Walker was caught in possession the ball fell to Le Huray who’s shot did not trouble Carre in goal. Connor had another chance seeing his shot just wide, then just before the break and against the run of play Le Huray has a speculative shot from a distance which rattles the Nomads bar, defense was slow to react and Smith sees a looping header go into the net 0-1 at the break.

Half Time Alderney 0 – 1 Vale Recreation

The 2nd half started with Alderney pressing a similar speculative long range shot by Connor took a deflection that beat VR keeper 1-1 much to the delight of the decent home crowd. That was the only chance the Nomads had for the entire of the 2nd half, VR superior fitness and more game time saw them inevitably getting more into the game, threatening to take the lead
and it was from a corner on 60mins the near post delivery saw the unfortunate Parry put the ball into the home net. Soon after the ball fell to Le Tissier who neatly tucked the ball away to make it 1-3 the referee’s assistant did flag for off side but was over ruled and the goal stood. Now VR in complete dominance looking hungry for more goals, a 4 on 1 break sees Travis shot
wide when it should have been 4, but it was soon after Le Tissier scores again making it 1-4 with 5 mins left.

VR certainly had the better of the 2nd half and deserved their victory.
Full time 1 – 4.
