Last week the Alderney committee learned of the sad passing of our previous
chairman Reg Atkins, the club have expressed their sadness and sent condolences
to the Atkins family.
Rey was a huge part of the Alderney community, his work with Alderney FC and FA
will never be forgotten, Reg reignited youth football in Alderney and was a large part
of the Junior Nomads setup, they continue to grow and develop.
Reg used all of his professional skills with Alderney football, marketing and
fundraising, he has helped the club gain the FA Charter Standard and become
recognised as a well-run football club.
Reg always had a vision of creating a multipurpose community sporting facility on
Alderney, he began the first steps a couple of years ago when he raised funds for
the clubhouse extension, the Committee have agreed that in recognition of Reg’s
tireless and selfless work in helping the club that the new Clubhouse should be
named in his honour.
Sadly in 2018 Reg was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, in true Reg Atkins
fashion he defied the Doctors predictions and lived beyond expectations, throughout
this time and up until his final days he was still working to help the Alderney football
community.
There is currently no known cure for this disease and treatment options are very
limited, Reg was determined to help create a brighter future for those affected by this
disease.
One of Regs dying wishes was to raise 100,000 signatures for his petition to have
this debated in parliament, this would bring recognition for all family sand loved ones
affected.
Regs family and the Alderney footballing community would be grateful if you could
take time to sign and share the petition.
