Alderney Nomads v Vale Recreation
Kindly sponsored by James Walker Builders
Alderney’s disappointing run of results continued as they were held to a draw at Mount Hale by a determined Vale Rec side who belied their lowly status in the Priaulx League. The Nomads have failed to win any of their last three games at home and their hold on third spot and qualification for the Wheway Cup is now in jeopardy.
Alderney started the game promisingly in partly sunny and breezy conditions but their form deteriorated as the afternoon wore on. Following early sparring between the two sides, Alderney forced a series of corners, from one of them the ball fell to John Adamson just outside the box his sweetly struck half volley was just wide. Then from a free kick after a quarter of an hour a loose ball ran to Corky in the penalty area and he slotted it into the far corner of the net A neat finish. 1-0 Alderney. The Nomads then had a good chance to go further ahead but both Ross and Joe had shots blocked by a scrambling Rec defence. The game became scrappier as half time approached and Jermaine picked up a yellow card for a late tackle on Ethan Woodhead the threat posed by Rec was limited in the first half a header just over by Jack Trott from a corner was the closest they came and Nomads deserved to be ahead at the break.

The interval featured an extremely positive critique of the burgers on sale by a visiting GFC supporter who said they were better than anything he had tasted on his native island! Well done Wendy and the team! Cheeseburger with onions £4
Rec came out for the second half in determined mood and had the better of the second forty-five minutes. Nomads struggled to gain any cohesion in midfield and were pushed back. At times looked jaded, chances did come, a Ross header from a cross by John Adamson was saved by the keeper, but most of the action took place in Alderney’s half with Rec’s substitutions making a positive impact. Alderney’s man of the match Jamie Laband pulled off a couple of outstanding saves, one at point blank range from Rec’s leading scorer Glen Le Tissier. He was unable however to keep out a late equaliser from Rec’s Trott following a period of pressure on the Nomads goal. Alderney 1 Rec 1
Both Con and John Adamson picked up second half bookings reflecting the pressure applied by Rec. A long-range free kick from Luke Le Tissier towards full time clipped the top of Alderney’s bar but the game ended in a draw with Nomads now preparing for a very difficult encounter away to Priaulx League leaders Northerners on Friday evening.
