January 18th Alderney Nomads v Northerners AC

Match report – Priaulx league
The Nomads welcomed visitors Northerners who were currently sitting 2nd in the league before today’s game, on a beautiful sunny and windless day, perfect for a game of football. A good size crowd had turned up, the highest gate of the season so far hoping to see a decent game and a home win!. North arrived buoyant after their fine victory away to leaders St Martins last week and started the brighter of the two teams. They had a great chance to take an early lead, an excellent cross field pass from midfield caught Alderney’s defensive players flat footed, Ben Bullock found himself in space one on one towards goal his shot went just wide of JT’s post. Alderney responded well with Dante Walker showing some good skill to force a corner, his corner was a terrific delivery and Stretton just missed the net when he met the ball with his right foot the ball hit the side netting. A competitive affair as expected, John Adamson was booked for a cynical foul as he brought down his opponent, Jermaine involved battling in all the midfield tussles, fouled on several occasions. Alderney were trying to play good football with some neat interchanges without creating any real clear-cut chances, on 37mins another super Walker cross just eluded Stretton’s head. Norths goal came on 40mins, a whipped in free kick caused problems in JT’s six-yard box and powerful Sam Murry headed in, the forward was causing problems, and came close to scoring again a few minutes later. Another North chance from a free kick won by Murry out muscling JC and another low cross nearly made it 0-2. In this short passage in play North could have been 0-3 up. Alderney’s last attack of the half Con sent in a looping cross right in the Sun so nearly looped into the top corner of the net. Half Time 0-1
Alderney started the 2nd half well attacking Mount Hale end where most of the supporters gathered, Joe Blackham found himself in space and ran straight at North’s defence he had 5 players chasing him! Possession was in Alderney’s favour without still really testing North’s keeper, a free kick accurately delivered by JC was met by the rising Blackham header rises over the bar, Ross and Con were either side of him and maybe the end result may have been different if it had fell to either. Then the equaliser came again another speedy whipped in cross by JC was punched into his own net by Addison under pressure from Con, a deserved equaliser for the Nomads. 1-1 The goal seemed to spark North into life and they soon captured the lead again, from another set piece and cross into the box winning a header which fell to Danny Hale who’s header from short distance beat JT 1-2. Disappointment for the home support, the Nomads responded well and soon won a corner Benfield header falls to JC who’s shot went well over the bar, another corner won by Stretton, again a chance for JC whose header again went over the bar. Parry picked up a booking, substitutions made with Andy Adamson and Owen Carre coming on replacing Walker and Stretton, Ross went upfront with alongside Carre and Blackham. However just after, JC collected his 2nd yellow card for a foul just inside the Nomads half, the referee had no choice and Josh received his marching orders! Jack Ives joins the game as he replaces John Adamson as the blues still try and push North for that equaliser, being driven by Alderney’s man of the match Parry. But the game ends, much disappointment for the team and the excellent home support, North were well marshalled and strong in all areas, they do look like a side that should win the Priaulx league this season having only been defeated once. This is now Alderney’s fifth defeat of the season and are now quite a few points adrift from the top two places.
