March 16th Alderney Nomads v Northerners AC
Kindly sponsored by The Rotary Club
The weather has certainly been consistent for these run of home games and today was no different, another strong south westerly, making football tricky in the gusty wind. Alderney welcome back Richard Moore into the midfield, making way for Josh McCulloch the only change from last week’s win. Northerners fielded a team that consisted of a few squad players, and they only had the bare 11, the home crowd were appreciative that they still travelled. Alderney attacking towards Fort Albert again, almost an immediate repeat of last week’s opening goal, and early corner on the right-hand side, met by captain Benfield whose direction was just over. Marian State looked more comfortable playing in a central forward position linked up nicely with Adamson, his cross was just over hit, having shown some neat skill to break into the box. The goal came on 9mins all from down the right-hand side, a cross from Josh into a crowded box, the ball fell to Jermaine Parry and from close range tucked it away 1-0, much to the delights of the assembling supporters and cars. The Nomads continued to press all the early exchanges were down the right involving the lively Adamson, Stretton, State and Steve Concanen. Any advances into the half of Alderney by North were dealt with by the defence well marshalled by coach Josh providing instructions to his team, and JT who made a comfortable save from a free kick. Parry was then booked for a strong challenge the referee did not hesitate to produce the yellow card, eventually Dante Walker and Joe Blackham came into the game down the left Dante having a shot just over. The same player attempted another effort just before half time, a little closer but again just over. The home crowd did feel Alderney deserved a 2nd goal with the amount of possession they had, but it wasn’t to be again.
Half time 1-0
Within 2 minutes of the restart State found himself in an excellent position following a cross into the box from the right, his shot went through the North Keepers legs and it was 2-0. With North having the wind behind them, a long wind assisted ball resulted in a corner to the sky blues, JT parred the ball away, and the resulting shot was just over, North’s first real attempt. Shortly after the ball was given away in Midfield by State, which resulted in another shot by North just over the bar. Alderney began to concede a few more free kicks which allowed the ball to be drilled into their 18-yard box putting the defence under pressure. With North attacking they were leading themselves open to the counter attack, Adamson broke down the right and delivered an excellent cross controlled and met by Walker, his shot found the net 3-0. Car horns and airhorns sounded! Adding to the celebrations. Two quick bookings in succession, for Stretton and Con, man of the match Adamson made way for Lee McCormack, a rest for next week’s big game. Bullock takes a free kick on the edge of Alderney’s 18 yard-box a left foot curling effort that was saved by JT, Alderney again break away this time down the left wing, some super skill by Blackham beats two players and unleashes a shot just off target, it would have been an excellent goal. Soon after Parry hits the post with another shot at goal, he was then substituted and received a warm round of applause for his efforts, Stretton also came off, on came Blonde and Aldcroft. North were still pressing, winning a corner on 83 and another corner soon after, JT was adjudged to have pushed over the smallest player on the pitch and a penalty was awarded. Taken by Le Provost 3-1 the kick was blasted down the centre. The game ends the home team receive a good reception as they leave the field. It’s the Muratti next with the team on an unbeaten run confidence is high amongst the ranks. They then take on Northerners again away.
